POTIONS & PIXELS is excited to partner with the Charlotte Planning, Design & Development Department, The Park CDC, North End Community Coalition, West Boulevard Neighborhood Coalition, CharlotteEAST, Carolina Tabletop Games, Queen City Game Club, Sol Nation, and Sustain Charlotte for this event!

The Growing Better Places: A More Equitable and Inclusive Charlotte game is a component of the Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan process. It's a fun, interactive way to get input from a diverse cross-section of the community about the future of Charlotte. Growing Better Places is designed to be played by everyone.

Game overview:
 

  • The Growing Better Places game is about better understanding the needs and impacts of growth and change citywide.


Game purpose and objectives:
 

  • Fill existing gaps in infrastructure and amenities that could complete several of Charlotte's neighborhoods

  • Ensure that new development results in benefits for existing and new residents and that neighborhoods align with the community vision and goals expressed throughout Phase 1 of the Comprehensive Plan process

  • Allocate the projected number of housing units and jobs for Charlotte in 2040

  • Ensure that the path to creating complete neighborhoods for all Charlotteans is equitable, economically viable and fiscally responsible

  • The results of each game will be recorded by the players and used to create growth scenario models that will be discussed with the public this fall.

  • Encourage community member discussion about growth and trade-offs

  • Have fun! There are no right or wrong answers or ways to play the game, so have fun and enjoy a lively discussion with your group.
